The Vision

There are hundreds of thousands of square meters of tent structures used around the world each year, as of today, almost none take advantage of the freely available solar energy - our vision has been to develop a product that does!
By doing so we demonstrate that clean, green energy can be harvested efficiently in environments and situations ordinarily ignored and by doing so supply practical and measurable energy that contributes to the overall reduction of CO2 emissions

The Challenge & Opportunity |
|
Crystalline solar cells are heavy, rigid and relatively expensive and therefore mainly used for buildings or permanent energy producing facilities
With the reduction in production costs, introduction of new innovative materials coupled with the advancement of thin film technology lends itself positively to the promotion of flexible and lightweight solar units
The opportunity now exists to integrate such advancements into temporary, moveable and flexible structures whose energy generation is a valuable additive to the environment that would otherwise be lost

The Solution

In working closely with its partners TentSO has been successful in developing a means to apply thin film PV technology to temporary structures. By studying the various requirements to support the pressures and strains imposed on tents and tensile structures TentSO has created a number of solutions that cater to the different objectives of the end client in an effective and efficient manner

The Technology |
|
Designed and developed in Switzerland, the core component is the amorphous silicon photovoltaic cell that is laid down as a thin film onto the substrate which is then laminated together to both protect and strengthen the PV unit. This contributes to both its lightweight and relatively low manufacturing costs. An added bonus being that the manufacturing process is more environmental due to the materials and processes involved
The fixation solutions leverage off the tent construction and tensile industry and are designed to support different end usage. These range from permanent integration of the PV units into the tent roof, removable PV units on a specialized roof or a flexible frame that can sit over and adjusted to any tent structure and size
For tent roof structures held under high tension a special fixation is attached to hold the PV units in place whilst simultaneously reducing the direct tension on the units
